Harris Environmental provided Marine Mammal Observer (MMO) services on behalf of Redside Construction for the Bangor Service Pier B710 Pile Replacement Project at U.S Naval Base (NAVBASE) Kitsap, Washington. This project supported the U.S. Navy’s efforts to conduct maintenance, pile replacement, and repair activities at marine waterfront structures in the Puget Sound region of Washington State. Work activities consisted of removing a total of five 14-inch steel fender piles, and installing five 16-inch steel fender piles, by way of crane or Ape 150 vibratory hammer. Two Harris Environmental Marine Mammal Monitors were stationed shore-side to implement monitoring protocol during pile driving and installation activities, using digital data collection survey forms developed by Harris Environmental to include all National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) data fields. Reports provided for the contractor and the U.S. Navy included daily summary reports as well as draft and final Marine Mammal Monitoring Reports submitted to NMFS for compliance under the Marine Mammal Protection Act (MMPA).
